Wainwright Appointed to Atlantic States Fisheries Commission
Rep. William Wainwright (D-Craven) has been appointed to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. For the past several years Wainwright has served as co-chair of the state's Joint Legislative Commission on Seafood and Aquaculture. The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission was formed by the fifteen Atlantic coast states (Maine through Florida, including Pennsylvania) in 1942 to assist in managing and conserving their shared coastal fishery resources. The states have found that their mutual interest in sustaining healthy coastal fishery resources is best achieved by working cooperatively and collaboratively with the federal government. Through this approach, the states uphold their collective fisheries management responsibilities in a cost-effective, timely, and responsive fashion. When Marlin Fight Back
| While this breaks the norm for stories about fishing in North Carolina, this tall tale is not only remarkable, it comes with its own video. We all know that marlin are fierce fighters, but this father and son fishing off the coast of Panama learned this lesson all too clearly when the 600 pound Marlin they hooked turned and attacked the son in the fighting chair. The son is now ok and is expected to make a full recovery after some plastic surgery. Check out the full story and great video . Archive Link 0 Comments Tell a Friend $BlogItemBody$> |

Possible End of NOAA Marine Forecasts
![]() The National Weather Service, a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has provided marine forecasts for more than 100 years. Despite the number of fishermen and mariners in North Carolina and other states that rely on these forecasts to stay safe, a bill introduced by U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) called the National Weather Service Duties Act of 2005 hopes to limit these wonderful forecasts and stop them from competing with private forecasts. We have always loved access to the latest VHF forecasts from NOAA and have to admit we have also taken them for granted. If you feel that NOAA forecasts are worth saving, be sure to let your government representatives know. Archive Link 0 Comments Tell a Friend $BlogItemBody$> |
